My teaching style is patient, thorough, and persistent. For beginning students I start with a simple five note scale, how to hold or sit with the instrument, and an easy tune such as mary had a little lamb or happy birthday; Some students get that in the first lesson and some take a couple weeks everyone has their own process. My teaching style involves setting realistic goals and making sure the environment is fun and invigorating. I always like to make sure I am teaching my students what they want to learn, but I do occasionally challenge them by assigning more advanced material that I envision them performing or think would be beneficial to them. I have recently relocated back to NYC and love it here. I am originally from Atlanta, Georgia and a graduate of UGA. I have been fortunate enough to record on tons of records and tour the world many times over. My work has kept me super versatile as I have done everything from big band and small group jazz to rock and funk. For Pianist, the Suzuki series is quite good, as well as A Dozen A Day and the tried and true Mikrokosmos of Bela Bartok. For more advanced players, I like to work within their preferred style, ie RB, Rock, Classical, but also find it important draw relevant material from other styles like Jazz and non-Western music.
