Music making and teaching has been my passion since I was young. In 2020, I graduated from the University of Michigan - Ann Arbor with a Bachelor of Music in Choral Music Education. As a child, I participated in choir for 8 years and was in the University of Michigan's University Choir and Orpheus Singers. I am a versatile and engaging musician with 14 years of experience performing and composing in a wide variety of genres: Jazz, rock, hip-hop, folk, classical, electronic, electroacoustic, avant garde, ambient, soul, punk, etc. This is a resource that has proven to be invaluable in teaching students with a wide range of interest to help them develop both in technique and in finding their own voice on their instrument. I have found from my experience from Baghdad, Lebanon, and now U.S. that so many methods and approaches can be used in music. I listen to the student's music selections. While he/she plays, I observe him/her how this student is adapting to the instrument. After his/her performance, I offer constructive criticism pointing out steps to adapt himself/herself to the instrument. I also encourage and push for attentive listening for tone quality. This is very important no matter the level of students. The way to listen for tone quality is not only seating straight and at the center of the keyboard, but also understand when and how to use the bony part of the fingers(closer to nails) versus the fleshy part of fingers on the opposite side of nails. I like to teach at your pace. If you want me to teach you songs, we can learn tabs and chords. Also, I can teach fundamental music theory which includes things like scales so you can solo on your guitar in certain keys of the song. It is important to me that each student feels comfortable during their lessons. I am very patient and understanding; I fully believe that a low-pressure environment helps students to thrive. Setting realistic goals is something else that I feel is important. No one is going to leave their very first guitar lesson playing like Yngwie Malmsteen, except for maybe Yngwie himself, so there is no possible way that I could expect that from any of my students.
