In the last 25 years I have had the opportunity to learn in small group settings (from duo to 15 "voice" big band). I graduated from Churchill High School in Livonia, MI after 4 years of drumline and orchestra, and went on to study 2 years of Jazz Studies at Wayne State University. I use the Faber method for my beginner students. Sometimes with students who are 4 or 5 years I use the pre-beginners books from Alfred. Other times I use the Suzuki method, depending on the level of understanding. Alongside those books, I use technique books to build good, strong hand especially for young kids. As we move along I start giving solo repertoire from different eras of music to introduce the student to different kinds of music from different composers. Read More

My style of teaching is based in milestone achievements. We determine the players current level and identify their goals. Once I have an idea of what the student wants to accomplish it becomes easy to customize a plan for each student's development. Once the student has demonstrated that he or she is practicing independently and making forward progress with the lessons, I add more complex musical arrangements to further improve reading and technique.
