I want my students to feel comfortable during lessons. After all, playing in front of someone can be scary! I strive to be warm and inviting while also providing direction and education. I put heave emphasis on the basics like scales (major and minor), circle of fifths, thirds and fifths, and sight reading. A few years ago, I taught the piano for approximately three years. I stopped teaching for a while in order to pursue my Bachelor's Degree - beginning at Dixie State University, and I am now working to build my clientele again. I absolutely love to teach. One of my favorite moments with every students happens at around the 4th or 5th lesson, when the student then feels comfortable enough to begin to discuss with me some of their goals with the piano. Encouraging a love of the instrument (and music in general) in younger students is something I'm very passionate about, but I'm always willing to help older students find that love as well. I teach using the Suzuki method with emphasis on scales, proper technique, and individual music preferences. For beginning students, I begin with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements book. Once the student begins to grasp the understanding of reading music, I transition to teaching scales, and into the Suzuki books. More advanced students will be learning out of the Position Pieces books by Rick Mooney, Foundational Studies by Alwin Schroeder, as well as any other music that they are interested in. Read More

Who doesn't like to feel good about themselves? My experiences have shown me that students who achieve successes with their music feel that way. They are better people and they are better musicians. I have taught high school students who went from having no identity in the student body society to becoming proud of themselves, walking the halls with their heads held high and a smile on their faces. I have been teaching music since 1998. My mother, aunts and grandmother taught piano. It has been a wonderful thing to have a recital and the parents see the results of all the fun the students have had. I think the students will enjoy piano music so much that they will create lifelong habits. I encourage them to enjoy other instruments and genres.
