As I progressed through the years, I expanded my range of student ability from beginner to upper intermediate, and from ages 6 to... well, older than me and I'm now 60! My experience as a teacher covers teaching guitar to beginners and intermediate level children and adults. As a private teacher, I usually go to the student's preferred location to teach. Here in America, I also worked as a teacher's aide at Sterling Elementary School in Tooele-UT. This experience gave me even more ease in teaching children, who naturally need a very attentive and patient approach. I'm a quietly passionate instructor motivated by my love of music and my students. In 2016, I graduated from Brigham Young University with a Bachelor of Arts in English, with a Minor in Music. As an undergrad, I often found my love of music creeping into my major coursework-- including my thesis! I've loved practicing and performing for over a decade (which is also more than half of my life!). From receiving my very first "Band Student of the Month" award in the fifth grade to helping soon-to-be-fifth graders achieve that goal themselves, I cannot express how much I love this instrument and the opportunities it has provided. I have been teaching since high school, and have taught students of all ages, ranging from age 5 to adults. I have had multiple opportunities to perform and accompany for various groups within my education at BYU, and have composed many pieces for piano, orchestra, and small groups. I follow the Suzuki method for beginner students, with some additional instruction to learn to read sheet music for those with previous music experience or older students who are ready to begin reading music. After the student has completed the first several books of the Suzuki method, I include selections from Solos for Young Violinists and other solo pieces as appropriate to reinforce certain skills. I love music and I love teaching. I have been playing the trombone for over 10 years and been involved in music since a very young age. My love of music has given me the opportunity to perform in some of Utah's best music halls, such as Abravanel Hall and The Conference Center on Temple Square, with some of Utah's best performing groups, such as the Utah Symphony and Caleb Chapman's Soundhouse. I usually start out using the Rubank Method, but I frequently incorporate some Suzuki and other ear training methods as well. I also like to use Trevor Wye's books for more advanced students. I like to expose all students to a classical repertoire of performance pieces, using basics for beginners and progressing in difficulty as the student gains more control of the instrument. I use a variety of books with etudes, or studies, to give students a strong background in technique while also teaching various musical concepts such as theory and improvisation. Read More
