Instruments: Violin Viola
Hi! My name is Lauryn L. and I am 19. Right now I go to BYU, and I am studying Viola Performance. I started viola in 6th grade and have been playing ever since. From 10th grade to 12th grade I went to the Gifted Music School Conservatory in SLC. I graduated from there last year. I have been able to work with many professional musicians through this music school. My favorite memories from my music experience so far was playing in Abravanel Hall with the Lyceum Philharmonic Orchestra, and playing 2 outdoor concerts at Thanksgiving Point Ashton Gardens with them as well. Instruments: Drums Bass Guitar
For any lesson I prefer to have two drum kits, side by side, so that my student can see exactly what I'm doing (posture, form, etc). Though this is not the case most of the time, one kit is always fine. For beginning students I often start with snare drum technique, and depending on what the student knows already, basic kit beats. Intermediate students, fills and timing. Advanced students, advanced beats, fills, etc. Read More
Instruments: Drums
I believe that my principal role as a teacher is to inspire. If I fail to inspire the student, none of the concepts or exercises I teach will bear any fruit. And so I ensure that our lessons consist of lots of musical moments with instruction, feedback, follow up, and accountability built into the lesson time at moments when it will be motivating and not intimidating. I treat the lesson time as if it was a piece of music. Read More
Instruments: Trumpet Euphonium French Horn
Once an optimal mentality is reached, I like to have the student play any prepared materials. During this time, I am listening as if I am the one playing and how I would go about bettering myself. I will ask the student what their thoughts are, where their priorities are, and how they would go about bettering themselves. If our answers do not happen to line up, I will share my position and we will attempt both solutions to see what works best. Read More
Instruments: Flute
I have taught private flute intermittently for the past 25 years, usually traveling to students' homes. I teach classical music as a foundation, while incorporating other types of music to keep it fun and interesting for the student. Many of my students have performed in recitals which I have organized, as well as in other performances that demand hard work and personal accomplishment. I have students from many different backgrounds and ages, and watching students grow from their musical endeavors and fall in love with music is one of the greatest achievements any teacher can have. Instruments: Guitar Acoustic Guitar
My experience as a teacher covers teaching guitar to beginners and intermediate level children and adults. As a private teacher, I usually go to the student's preferred location to teach. Here in America, I also worked as a teacher's aide at Sterling Elementary School in Tooele-UT. This experience gave me even more ease in teaching children, who naturally need a very attentive and patient approach. I believe that my role as a teacher is for the student to learn to play the instrument in an easy, pleasant and intuitive way, based on theoretical and practical learning in an combined way.
