I've had no official teaching positions yet, but I have had the opportunity to teach music in more casual contexts. Being the principal violist of the Lyceum Philharmonic for a year, I was tasked to conduct sectionals, and help the viola section become more solid. Also, I sometimes will help my younger brother with his piano practice, helping him solve musical problems, and enjoy playing more. It is very important for any student at any level to have a strong technical foundation starting with proper posture and hand shape. For young beginners, I recommend starting with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements for Band. Once the student has grasped the fundamentals, we will introduce solo pieces appropriate for the child's skill level and purposes (preparing for a performance vs learning for fun, for example). For older students, we will work quickly to establish a firm knowledge of the fundamentals before moving on to more complex pieces based on the student's interests. Read More
