I've found the best way to teach is to cater to each student's interest. While early or beginning players may require some fundamental grunt work, there is always a way to assure that it's fun too. Earlier students would need to start learning the basics: rhythm, learning to read, developing technique through scales etc. of which there are many methods. As students mature, I feel the Suzuki method for aspiring classical students is the best route (there are multiple books in this series) along with some other extensive and more challenging works. For beginning students who are children I use varying method books such as Faber, Bastian, Leonard etc. These method books do a wonderful job of progressing the student naturally and gradually which is my style of teaching. Once the student shows understanding and mastery of the basic fundamentals taught in these books, the level of advancement grows and solo pieces will be chosen that best help the Student progress musically and technically.
