My main focus with beginning students is maintaining the fun about learning as to maintain their passion for the instrument and thus really putting the effort in. Once I find out their level, I take things one step at a time. I always do warm ups, and exercises based on wha t they need work on. I am patient with the students but I do expect them to come prepared. If they do well, I will absoutely let them know, and if they need to work on something, I politely let them know. I began teaching in 2012 when I was awarded the Graduate Assistant position at Western Michigan University. As a G.A., I was responsible for teaching non-music majors saxophone lessons, theory and ear-training, as well as coaching ensembles. I also taught flute and clarinet at Paramount Charter Academy in Kalamazoo, Michigan to middle school students.
