When I think of teaching, I think of how rewarding it is to get to know each student and their families. I encourage parents to stay in the lesson (not required). There is so much to learn and see. My students each have a plan each week outlining not just WHAT to practice but HOW to practice. I often say if you practice HOW I am asking you to practice, you will learn a lot and progress. If teachers skip the fundamentals, there is no foundation. I think the best teachers integrate fun with drills which creates the best results. I am a competitor by nature, so I have a goal to get the best out of my students. I will do what I have to do to make sure these students can play by the time we are done. As long as the student is enjoying themselves and getting better at their instrument, that is all we can ask for as leaders! Read More
Instruments: Saxophone
My goal for every lesson is for the students to feel accomplished by the end. This gives them the drive and inspiration that they need to become a great player. I also like to acknowledge students improvements on things they have practiced. In my mind a student will never improve with intense mean criticism. I always acknowledge the good first and things to work on second. This helps with there overall confidence in there playing. Read More
Instruments: Piano Guitar
My teaching style is laid back and fun, as well as motivating and challenging. I think it's important for each lesson to be fun because it fosters positive growth and a love for music. It is also important to me that students take their learning seriously. I expect my students to practice on their own time in order to reach their own goals. Without practice and perseverance, it is difficult to become skilled at your instrument. Read More
Instruments: Flute Piccolo
I have been teaching the flute for many years, dating back to my undergraduate college days. I taught several students that were looking to audition at the school I was at and needed additional help. I have also taught at a summer flute day camp in Michigan for 7 years, working with middle school, high school, and adult students. I currently teach beginning through high school flute students in Pendleton. Having worked with a variety of levels of students, I have a broad perspective of what students need and am flexible as far as my teaching style for each individual student. Read More

I began teaching shortly after graduating from college, not expecting that teaching would be something I'd be too keen about. However, it has really grown on me and I love the gift of giving music to prospective students and watching them grow and learn as I once did. I have been teaching at various locations/businesses throughout the NJ area from as south as Swedesboro to as north as Trenton. Read More

For beginners, I generally stick with the Faber Method books, as I enjoy their unity of music theory and practical application more than other method series. It is my goal to remove students from methods as soon as possible- somewhere around early intermediate skill level, so that we may engage with more meaningful repertoire from the 'greats', as well as give the students the tools to take agency over their own repertoire choices, including transcriptions of popular media.
