We build this foundation through singing pieces that the student is familiar with and lots of vocal exercises. At the same time, I like to introduce basic music theory concepts. We would go over guitar methods such as fingerstyle exercises, left hand exercises, chords, and basic sight-reading. After the student has considerably grasped basic fundamentals, I would start introducing repertoire appropriate for their reading level.
