Overview:
I'm 18 years old and I am extremely determined and a passionate teacher who loves teaching students and passing on what I have learned from my own teachers. I want to be able to share my experience and my love of music with other students. I began college at Los Angeles College of Music in 2017 and graduated with my degree in 2020. I am now currently studying for my Masters degree at CalArts in Jazz performance and Education. I’ve opened for Sonora Dinamita, been on a record with Morris Day, played with James Brown keyboardist Jerry Poindexter, I’ve performed with Dave Weckl, Alex Hahn, Adam Hersh, Joey Sellers and Barb Catlin (Wayne Bergeron’s wife). Emerging artist at Caltech.
EXPERIENCE
My teaching experience dates back to high school. I would travel around the Imperial Valley County and teach kids who were in elementary school and junior high the basics of the saxophone and help them with any difficulties in the music that they were playing. As I grew older and learned more, I began to teach people who were older than me in high school and the underclassmen as well. I try to make a lesson as fun and as engaging as possible so if a student isn't enjoying the lesson, I try other methods so the information is retained a lot more.
METHODS USED
For beginner students I will use the book "Accent on Achievements" by Jack O'Reilly and Mark Williams. I will show them the fundamentals of their saxophones. I will teach students all the correct fingerings and the alternate fingerings. I will teach students how to read, write, and sight read sheet music. I will teach students the basic terms of music and very basic music theory. For example: Time signature, bass and treble clef, meter, staff, etc. Once the student begins to progress more, I will then move forward to more complex terms, theory and genres of music that it is applied. For older students and adults, I will ask what their goal is in wanting lessons with me and I will do my very best to keep the lesson engaging, fun and I will guide them as clear as I can to reach their dreams and beyond.
LESSON STYLE
I absolutely love seeing the look on a students face when they are happy with what they are playing or learning. There is nothing that makes me more proud than to see my student improve and look back at how much progress they have made since they started. It's extremely important that I help my students move at a pace that they want to move at. I know that giving a student praise for doing an exceptional job is important when progressing, however, giving constructive criticism is also very important. There's a thing about certain musicians who have made it very far. For example, Charlie Parker never would've been Charlie Parker if Jo Jones didn't chuck a cymbal at him when he messed up. He never would've wanted to sit and practice for hours and hours a day to become who he became. I won't go that far, but it's just an example, I will give good constructive criticism to make sure that my students progress as much as they can to become the next Charlie Parker. Or even the next, them, have them get their own voice in music.

I have to say Iban is young but extremely talented. He dedicates most of his time to his music and is one of the most passionate musicians I know. I have been able to go over some theory concepts with Iban and he is very patient with his students. He has helped me learn new concepts on my horn and if it is hard to understand, he does not give up on teaching the concept. He is able to adapt and overcome to situations and does not give up on his students. Overall, he’s just a great teacher, person, and musician.

Very professional teacher and ambitious musician. I heavily recommend him for both beginning and advanced students. He has helped me get better at my sight reading abilities and I have improved. I've also had the privilege to practice with him rather than getting lesson, and I can guarantee there is nothing but professionalism and a high quality of musicianship learned fron him.
