My teaching experience goes back as far as high school when I started volunteering to teach violin lessons to younger students. In my college years, I taught as part of Oberlin Conservatory's secondary lessons program in addition to teaching members of the Oberlin community of different ages and levels. Currently, I maintain private studios in multiple locations as an addition to my Musika students. It was because of this grant that I was able to attend the Boston University Tanglewood Institute for Saxophone Performance, where I took lessons and studied with some of the North Shore's greatest saxophonists, such as Ken Radnofsky and Jennifer Bill. For several years in a row, I have attended the Massachusetts Music Educators Association conference and took a variety of different masterclasses centered around education and musicianship. I believe a major key to success in learning music is finding the methods and concepts that click for you. There are infinite ways to think of a phrase or harmonic relationships and I work to learn which connections make sense to you. One major takeaway from my own education has been how to listen to my playing objectively and free of self-judgement. I constantly encourage my students to develop a similar mindset, since I see self-encouragement as much more important than encouragement from a teacher or an audience. Read More

For absolute beginners(which i have experience with) i typically show them a couple open chords to practice.this teaches the student how to place their fingers and also how to properly hold a guitar.once the student is a little proficient, i introduce single notes onthe fretboard, as well as a few more open chord shapes and task them to make a simple song in any style that pleases them. As an EDUCATOR, I have had the opportunity to teach talented and diverse students from ages 4 to 89 and my aim has always been to support my students in finding their voices across different genres of music and helping them become more confident, creative, unique, and comfortable with any style of music they love to play. I won a top prize at the Korea Clarinet Association Ensemble Competition which included a performance at the Seoul Art Center, a second prize at the National Music Competition by Busan Music Association of Education and was a winner of the school's annual concerto competition which included a performance as a soloist with Pusan National University Symphony Orchestra. I recently began registration with the Suzuki Association of the Americas, and am in the process of becoming a Suzuki certified teacher for Book 1. I find the Suzuki method extremely helpful for starting young students, however I also like to use other resources such as the Essential Elements book for beginners. I also want to focus heavily on note reading and sight reading at a younger age, so students have a solid foundation if and when they become members of orchestras or other ensembles. Read More
