Music is my passion and I love sharing it with others. I've been an instructor for drums and percussion for over twenty years. After graduating from Berklee College of Music, I moved to L.A. where I continued my studies alongside ultra professional drummers Dave Weckl Chad Wackerman. While living in California I was able to gain invaluable experience performing on stage and recording in major studios. My experience begins immediately out of college. I gave private music lessons for many years. Soon I began concentrating on playing at the professional level in the Pocono Mountains where I lived. I was in several successful bands with Mickey Day, John Murphy, Spencer Reed, and Ed Ludwig along with others. If they are playing in band, I will use whatever their teacher starts with in band and progress from there. Melissa started teaching during her senior year of college when she took her first vocal pedagogy course. Teaching has been an important part of her schedule ever since. Over the years, she has taught privately, through various community schools, through several national companies, and she served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant at Illinois State University for two years. I usually use Alfred Basic Piano Library Book 1 for beginning young students and Alfred's All-In-One Course for beginning adults. I will combine piano playing and music theory in my teaching. During the lessons, I start with scales, technical exercise, and then solo repertoire. For weekly assignment, I might give my students 1-2 solo repertoire, scales, and technical exercise depends on there level. Also, I often adjust my teaching methods to students' needs. Read More
