I want all my students to succeed. It is important to me that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realist goals for my students at each lesson. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Read More

For beginning students on piano, I typically start with Piano Adventures. For beginning students on saxophone, I typically start with fundamentals like Sound production with long tones, embouchure exercises, A Tune A Day by C. Paul Herfurth. I have also directed various musicals on the Middle School level, such as You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown, Fiddler on the Roof, Babes in Arms, Oliver and others. At times, I even accompanied the shows on piano as I directed! Read More

I was recently hired by Pearson to create a series of instructional videos to accompany their new textbook. In them, I teach students about different words one uses to write about music (timbre, tempo, etc). The publisher has called me "a natural, with a colloquial style that is very engaging and easy to understand." While I am otherwise new to teaching music, I have taught sailing for the past 9 summers of my life. Read More

Music is fun and music makes us human. My style of teaching is built around the exploration of how music is fun at all skill levels and everyone can learn it, enjoy it, and feel it. The best method of teaching music is whatever best fits with the student pursuing their musical goal. For some, that can be very hands on, and others that can be all by ear training. Read More
