Instruments: Bass Guitar Double Bass
Beginning students are taught to read bass clef and are given introductory exercises to familiarize them with the strings and fingerboard. From there, I begin to teach more advanced music theory to build off of the established foundation. Some of the books I use for theory study are the Real Books and Dover Music's Bach Keyboard Music for jazz and classical theory respectively. Additional materials for intermediate and advanced students include Oscar Stagnaro's Latin Bass Book, Jimmy Haslip's Melodic Bass Library, and the Charlie Parker Omnibook depending on the student's genre of interest. I started teaching in College after seeing the benifit from teaching Music Education Students brass Technique. I feel the best teachers are constantly putting themselves into situations where they are students. I am always taking classes and learning new things in and around music. I taught myself 3 instruments this very way, and have been able to perform and teach these instruments very effectively. Read More

For beginners, I have a multitude of etudes, simple songs, and exercises to encourage sight-reading, finger comfortability, and basic cognitive understanding of music fundamentals such as scales. For guitar, I usually begin with fun simple songs such as "What do we do with the Drunken Sailor" and a simple blues. For woodwind instruments, I'll typically begin with songs such as Hot Cross Buns, Mary Had a Little Lamb, or some holiday songs during the holiday season. Read More

I prefer to do half-hour lessons for beginners and young musicians. After more lessons can be prepared, forty-five minute or hour long lessons are more appropriate. For trumpet students, I rely heavily on the Arban method for the essentials and then add other materials depending on the student's goals. For voice students, I begin with a vocal exercise book and a collection of songs to learn. For all my students, I encourage you to bring in your own materials to work on as well. Read More

My greatest quality as a teacher is being flexible and listening to my students' needs. Not everyone learns the same way and to try to teach everyone the same way, you won't always get the results you want. That's why during my first lesson with each student, I try to figure out what the student wants to learn and how they learn best so we can come up with a plan that would work best for them, knowing that there's always room to amend that plan. Instruments: Piano Voice
My methods are highly individualized as i get a feel for the student's musical personality. I find it is important to provide structure and a framework for learning, and for piano we begin with one the standard piano lesson series - whichever seems to appeal to age and preference. Some younger students respond well to a rewards system, while others are naturally self-motivated. Technical exercises are valuable, both to gain appreciation for practice routines, and for strength and dexterity. Read More

My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons part time 3 years ago, and have been consistently teaching students in my home studio for the last 1 year. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. I've also found that a combination of classical and modern music can go a long way in helping students enjoy the piano and motivate them to practice and continue to learn. Read More
