I began teaching private voice lessons to high school-age children in 2016. Since then, I have had the opportunity to work with people ages 5-30. The Metropolitan Opera Guild was an excellent teaching experience, where my mentors included teachers at Lincoln Center and New England Conservatory alumni. As a participant in NEC's Vocal Pedagogy program, I had the experience of teaching lessons to my colleagues in NEC Opera. My methods of choice for instruction are many due to the amount of instruments that I teach and the many levels of mastery within each concentration. For most woodwinds I begin with the Rubank family of methods and duet books. I favor many of the Berklee press books for music theory, voice, keyboards, genre studies, guitar, bass, composition, ear training, harmony and arranging. I would say words like ENERGETIC, DILIGENT, INTELLECTUAL and SUPPORTIVE are words that would describe my teaching style. Nothing is more rewarding to me than seeing one of my students develop a practice and passion for music! I encourage student's by setting realistic goals at each stage. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. My most recent teaching experience occurred while I was working on my Masters at Binghamton University. There, I had my own voice studio, comprised of top performing vocal students, as well a course open to any level of singers, which introduced them to a healthy singing technique. I try to tailor lesson plans to each individual as I believe different people want to get different things out of singing. For younger students, I will focus on the fundamentals of music such as pitch recognition, rhythmic accuracy, scale execution. These building blocks can help children confidently express themselves in music.
