I'm an engaging and passionate classical pianist who began playing at age 4. I studied under Ingrid Clarfield throughout my early years, then continued my training under Robert Shannon at Oberlin College Conservatory, where I completed a dual-degree program in Classical Piano Performance and Psychology. I've performed at Carnegie Hall and collaborated with elite musicians from around the world. My background in both music and psychology gives me a unique perspective on the emotional and cognitive aspects of learning and performing. Read More

I particularly enjoy giving lessons and the seeing the progression of student with Special Needs (I'm a part time para professional teaching grad 2 students with Special Needs). I like to start with learning the Pentatonic scale in it's 1st position and show how it can be played in 5 positions based on the components of the scale being built on 5 notes, or intervals. We'll look at the C major/A minor scales on every string to show where all of the natural notes are on the individual strings and then expand upon playing them in modes, and move on to another key to show how these scale patterns are inter related with all 12 keys followed by learning the chord shapes in open and closed positions and how and where to utilize them in songs or in a blues/jazz sensibility. For my beginning piano students, I emphasize the twelve major and minor scales with proper fingering, first one octave and then two octaves. These exercises strengthens fingers and create more familiarity with the keyboard. I use the book, Level 1 The Older Beginner Piano Course by James Bastien and the companion book, Musicianship for the Older Beginner. I have seen results when these books are used in tandem. The student increases in technique and start to master music theory simultaneously. Read More

When I give students pieces, exercises, and examples to improve their skills, it is crucial that they not only enjoy what theyre playing but are able to apply it to other areas in their musical vocabulary. From my experience, I have noticed this excites the students the most because they are able to grasp the information in terms of how to play as opposed to what to play. When a student feels accomplished, they are more likely to practice and have the mindset of practicing to be more of a personal decision rather than a requirement. Read More

I have complemented my music education by performing continuously over the last 20 years, including many cities and stages around the world, from my early years in junior ensembles to The Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia, Symphony in C orchestra, Lancaster Symphony Orchestra, and the iPalpiti chamber orchestra of international laureates. Probably my greatest blessing and professional accomplishment is being invited to perform as the soloist as well as a chamber and orchestra musician at prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall (NYC), Napa Valley Performing Arts Center at Lincoln Theater (CA), Kimmel Center (Philadelphia PA), Walt Disney Hall (Los Angeles CA), John F. Teaching style is derived from my own techniques proven to develop the style and success needed to achieve. No method books or corny techniques are utilized. We don't use boring teaching method books, but formulate a concise direct approach to artistry. We will learn songs and style that the student will chose, then, incorporate all aspects of theory, scales, progressions as will as pedagogy to enhance not only the playing level of a student, but, a total and thorough understanding of music that will allow the student to progress to a professional level.
