For beginning students who are children, I typically teach the book that they use in band class. If they/the parents would prefer a specific book or are not in band, I typically use Standard of Excellence, the red book and then progress to the blue book. I love teaching the violin and viola to students who desire to learn the instruments regardless of their goals for the instrument. As the child progresses, I add supplemental materials and more advanced performance pieces that may be used for recitals. I’m a great listener as I pointed out earlier. My musical strength has always been my ear. I’ve learned all major and minor scales with arpeggios through schooling and that’s great knowledge to have. I focus my teaching technique on scales and arpeggios to show that music heavily comprises of these fundamental elements. But I also teach students who want to learn by ear training and I teach students how to tune the instruments which is a major skill to have. Read More

I have taught private students of all levels in both jazz and classical, as well as instructing collegiate jazz ensembles, collegiate saxophone quartets, high school jazz ensembles, and high school marching bands.
