For every student, I initally assess why they are taking lessons and what their goals are. Together we create a plan to acheive those goals. For young beginners, I like the FJH guitar series. It was written by guitar educators. I also teach the student to play fun songs and tunes to supplmement the books. For teens and adults, the path depends on their goals, which aren't always in a book. Read More

My number one goal is to meet the student where they are at!--and we go on up from there. I like to develop a relationship with my students in which there is a shared responsibility. On my part, I will provide the necessary resources and guidance that will help them achieve their musical goals. Their part only requires a simple curiosity and willingness to learn something new along with a focused work ethic to put their newfound skills into practice! Read More
Instruments: Voice
With my new beginning students, who don’t have much experience, we start with the fundementals - singing posture, breathing, basic warm ups and their importance, music theory, and simple repertoire. For my more intermediate, advanced students, I will check to see where your fundementals are, and help you blossom from there. My intermediate to advance students will continue to work on breathing, breath control, warm ups, music therory, and will be assigned to contrasting songs at a time. Read More
Instruments: Trumpet Saxophone
I currently teach at a Charter School in Newark, NJ. I have taught private saxophone and trumpet lessons since I was in high school. Practicing on a regular schedule is the best way for young students to improve, as well as older students to continue to perfect their technique. My goal is for students to have fun while they learn and while they practice. A lot of times, students are not encouraged to practice because it seems too difficult. Read More

I love tailoring each lesson to each individual student I teach. It is important to me that my students are interested in the material that they are learning. I enjoy helping my students reach their musical goals by selecting repertoires that appeal to them while also helping to address and resolve their technical deficiencies. For my beginning piano students, I typically start with Faber's Piano Adventures. For young singers, I use the Kodaly Method as a way of developing musical skills and teaching musical concepts. My students range from multitudes of different musical backgrounds so what I like to do is work on their basic musical foundation by teaching them theory and ear training to be able to understand how music works and how this knowledge applies to their musical development. Instruments: Flute
When teaching, I start all of my students from the beginning, even if they have experience. The more the student already knows, the quicker we can move. It is extremely important to make sure each student has an very strong foundation and is comfortable with the basics of flute playing. Examples are finger and hand positioning, posture, etc. The language of music theory is used in all lessons as a tool for learning. Read More
