I'm currently in my final year of pursuing a BFA in Music Composition & Technology at University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and have extensive experience studying, teaching, composing, recording, and performing music. I have studied guitar and string bass in private lessons, having additionally performed in UW-Milwaukee's Symphony Orchestra and Experimental Improvisation ensemble. While I was still in high school in 1995, I began giving drum lessons to neighborhood kids. After a while, I realized it was something I could really get into. Before even graduating, I taught 10-12 steady students for quite a long time. Some of the neighborhood kids studied with me until they went to college. Developing tone needs to be paramount from the beginning, with using slower exercises to build the muscles and develop the ear. I will also have the student work with a tuner relatively quickly, but the ultimate goal is to develop the ear relative to other pitches, so I mostly work with drones playing in the background so that the student can play a passage with the root tone as a constant reference. I began teaching the clarinet in 2016 at Highland Park High School in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. 7 of my 8 students in 2016 placed in the TMEA Region Band, and another 2 went on to the 5A TMEA All-State Symphonic Band.
