I usually balances the time by working first on fundamental/technical aspects of the instrument: intonation, articulation, rhythm, and tone; followed by study of the particular student's chosen repertoire, whether it be jazz standards, rock/pop/blues tunes, classical literature or etudes. I believe in teaching students to organize their practice time wisely, isolating specific issues on the instrument. My teaching experiences have been positive, fun, and I've built good relationships with my students. My favorite part about teaching is seeing singers gain confidence in their singing ability and hearing their voices grow. I belive that any learning experience should be fun above all things. I learn a lot from my students, and I encourage them to take risks and opportunities to make them into better musicians. For beginning students, around ages 5-9, I start with easy songs, but also teach them how singing works. I like to teach technique, and help students improve in their singing. Once students have grasped the fundamentals of singing, I'll let them start looking at solo repertoire so they can practice for a recital performance. For intermediate and advanced students, I like to see what they are interested in to see how I can teach them, and be able to keep them more engaged. Read More

For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Guitar Method One. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, including being able to read both staff and tab and have some basic playing technique , I will begin to introduce solo repertoire.
