Chris was a member of UNT's A Capella Choir, ranked among the top five undergraduate choirs in the nation. He has worked with numerous acclaimed performers and voice teachers including Laurel Miller, Lella Cuberli, Richard Croft, Dr. Stephen Morscheck and Dr. Stephen Austin. He has led, taught and performed in small singing ensembles that performed vocal music from a variety of genres including 16th-Century Madrigals, Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen and Barbershop. Working with many different teachers and many different musical genres has enabled him to personalize his lessons to the musical interests of each student. As a teacher, his use of exercises backed by scientific research coupled with an emphasis on increasing confidence and freedom in singing has helped his students achieve results in real time. For Chris, seeing his students gain access to new opportunities, learn step-by-step how to drop unhelpful habits and become skilled at balancing consistent practice with creative thinking are all part of what makes him so wholeheartedly engaged in teaching the art of singing.
Teaching is not just what I do, it's part of who I am. I gave my first lesson before I knew that's what I was doing: I was just a high school senior helping a handful of freshmen navigate their first classical and jazz repertoire, but even then, I knew I loved seeing that joyous breakthrough when a student plays something -- a musical passage, maybe just one note -- that sounds beautiful. I began teaching professionally during my second year at the University of North Texas, assisting middle school students take those first steps toward understanding their instrument. As I progressed as a saxophone and piano player, I taught high schoolers and adults in jazz improvisation and prepared classical repertoire, and continue to do so today.
I graduated from Arizona State University with a Bachelor of Music Degree, piano emphasis, and a Master of Education Degree in Elementary Education. My goal in teaching is to empower, inspire, and motivate every student to obtain their personal best, and to develop a life-long love of music. I have a varied background in music, and am comfortable teaching all styles of music. I also teach chords, theory, and improvisation and incorporate it into the lesson in a practical way. Many former students are professional musicians and singers. I am currently employed as an elementary music teacher in the public school system.
My name is David and I'm a professional musician who just moved to North Austin. I came from Cincinnati, where I went to the University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music. I have been teaching for over fifteen years, and I'm looking to get a few new students. When I was young I asked my dad to teach me something on his old acustic guitar. Before he knew it I was taking lessons and surpassing him on guitar and piano. In high school I started listening to a wide variety of music and began teaching under the auspices of a local teacher with a studio. I eventually saved up enough money to buy a good double bass, the instrument that I would later use in college and many ensembles. I was attending school full time and teaching, at times, thirty hours a week. I joined bands that gigged regularly around Cincinnati and the country. We were recorded on NPR and a handful local, independent radio stations in the midwest. After college, I continuted teaching and found a regular gig at an upscale hotel in downtown Cincinnati. I played with in the Philip Paul Jazz Trio, three nights a week and every holiday in the hotel lounge.
Each lesson is designed specifically with the students’ abilities and challenges in mind as well. For young or beginning voice students, I like to begin with a solid foundation of intonation, body alignment, sight reading, and breath support using beginning level folk songs. The repertoire I choose is specific to each student's short-term goal and stylistic preference. For intermediate students, I focus on tone, coloration, vocal agility, diction, musicality, dynamics and performance anxiety. I am a firm believer in support and encouragement from family, and I insist that parents/guardians of high school students and younger stay informed with what their child is working on. The more supportive their environment, the more growth they experience! For piano students, I love to utilize Faber's Piano Adventures books and sprinkle in popular repertoire once the basics are covered.

Provided you do not have the space or budget to purchase an acoustic piano, such as an upright or baby grand, then a keyboard is a perfectly acceptable alternative. Keyboards with a weighted hammer action are the best option, as the key touch sensitivity is comparable to that of an acoustic piano. As a rule, more keys are better and at least 61 key pianos are advised. The most popular brands of keyboard are Casio, Roland, and Yamaha and can be purchased from most musical instrument retailers. Keyboards offer great convenience due to their price, portability, and headphones option.
Whether you have an interest in learning to play contemporary, jazz, blues, or classical piano, piano teachers in the Musika network can help develop your playing through one-on-one lessons. Throughout your piano lessons, you will cover a wide range of skills ranging from basic playing, to music theory, all the way through more advanced piano study. For those just starting out, the essential elements of piano such as hand position and fingering technique are generally taught before moving on and applying these skills to playing major and minor scales and simple songs using one hand. Students then typically progress to learning chords, such as major chords, and start to put these into practice by learning simple songs. Lessons may also cover the theory side of piano, such as reading music, sight reading, and chord charts. Experienced players can work on certain aspects of their playing, such as improvisational skills, genre-specific playing such as jazz, or developing their repertoire.
One-on-one piano lessons straight from the comfort of your own home is a great way to learn to play the piano. 90% of our students choose to take lessons from home, mostly due to the convenience of not having to make travel arrangements both to and from their lessons. This is great for parents and students with busy schedules. The content of home lessons is exactly the same as studio lessons, however, you will need to have a keyboard or piano at your home. Home lessons provide the best learning environment, as it is a comfortable, familiar surrounding for students to learn in.
Taking piano lessons as an adult is a great way to learn a new skill and have fun at the same time. The instructors in our network can help you learn the very basics of piano if you are a beginner, or if you are an advanced player they can help you refine your skills. Adult lessons will focus on learning the technique of the instrument, including how to read music, chords, and learning repertoire
Piano is a great first instrument for children who have never studied music before. The instructors in our network specialize in teaching younger children, and can develop an individual lesson plan for your child. The youngest age that we recommend starting piano lessons is age 4. The instructor will be able to teach your child to read music, beginning music theory and musicianship skills, and how to develop a love for playing the instrument.

When I started with Darrell, I didn't know anything bout music. Nothing. We started with basic music theory & moved into scales and reading. It hasn't been very long at all, but my confidence is growing quickly. He does ask a lot from you and he expects you to keep up. But I can honestly say that if you are willing to work hard and spend the time at home doing what he asks, you will see the results. He wants you to succeed and takes pride in watching you grow. If you want it as bad as he does, you will see the result very quickly.

I've always said, "It's all about the teacher." That skillful, effective teacher who can reach that child and ignite her passion, is truly a gift. Ric does that for my daughter. As a former music teacher myself, the most challenging thing in working with children is how to build their fundamental musical skills while letting them have fun and be expressive. The teacher must create a safe, supportive environment, and Ric does that. Ric immediately focuses on fundamentals of tone and technique, giving my daughter succinct instruction on how to improve, thus she can sense the improvement immediately. Ric seems extremely easy going; even when lighting a fire under her sometimes under-achieving butt, Ric never criticizes, judges or blames. He works with my child, understanding her, helping her problem solve, and even giving her the quick answer sometimes so she can move quickly and stay motivated. Ric balances fundamentals with fun and expressiveness, so my child feels as though she can 'play' and they truly make music in every lesson. I am thankful we found a good match with Ric.

My son and I both take lessons with Micheal. My son started on the ukulele and recently started the guitar. He is excellent with children. Very patient and very intuitive to the child's ability. He is also an excellent teacher for adults. I had not touched my guitar in several years and in a couple months not only to I remember everything I forgot but I'm learning many new techniques and am a much better player than I've ever been.

Amber is personal and cares about her students. She is flexible in her schedule and maintains a professional attitude in her lessons. Her want for her students to succeed makes her excel as a teacher. She is very knowledgeable about music and extremely experienced. After signing up for lessons with David L. I knew I made the right choice. Just after a couple of weeks I didn't see him as a teacher but as a best friend. There was always a relaxed atmosphere during the lessons. He was very easy to talk to and he really listen to you. If I ever had a question he would answer. He tailors to what ever you want to do in that lesson. David L. is a great teacher and a friend. I totally recommend him for anyone

It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.Ok
