Instruments:

I began formal study of piano at age seven, learned to sing by participating choir from seventh through ninth grades, and developed general music skills by being a percussionist in Symphonic Band where I attended high school. From that time, I continued playing repertoire until entering college to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Piano Performance with an emphasis on research. I took a variety of electives including a course on the life and works of Johann Sebastian Bach, a course in Art Song, a seminar in piano Concerto, and a course in Symphonic literature. I took courses in conducting. My college education has enabled me to perform gigs in small venues including studio work for a local singer/songwriter's demo recording and providing background music for social or fundraising events. Additionally, I have participated in special vocal projects as a composer/reviewer and as a vocal coach to children ages eight through eighteen. I am happy with my choices to accept long term substitute teaching assignments for choir and band as well as engagements in the private sector because I believe I am a more informed instructor and can provide much knowledge for my students.

I have been living, teaching, and performing music in Austin for the last 8 years. I sing and play guitar with Sara Shansky and the Titanic Dance Band.  I grew up in Rhode Island, went to Tufts University for my bachelors degree, and spent a few years on the west coast playing music and falling in love. My husband and I just had our first baby in August of 2012 and I'm sure he will be a music lover too!

I'm a passionate and experienced instructor who's love for teaching and music is personified through each and every student I teach. I have been a musician since grade school playing percussion for the school band. I am a professional musician as well and have unlimited experience as well as knowledge to share with my students. I also have a bachelors degree in Music and Sound recording from The University of New Haven. My goal as a teacher is to give my students not only exposure to different types of music, but to help them work hard towards reaching their own personal goals.

My teaching experience dates back to my college days during my sophmore year giving private lesson to children in the surrounding community. I did not relaize the joy of teaching until one of my students performed. Currently two of my high school students have received scholarships for college towards their education. As a educator this is the proudest I ever been in having students major in music and receive scholarships. Being a music teacher gives me such job and I would not trade it for anything.

My name is David and I'm a professional musician who just moved to North Austin. I came from Cincinnati, where I went to the University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music. I have been teaching for over fifteen years, and I'm looking to get a few new students. When I was young I asked my dad to teach me something on his old acustic guitar. Before he knew it I was taking lessons and surpassing him on guitar and piano. In high school I started listening to a wide variety of music and began teaching under the auspices of a local teacher with a studio. I eventually saved up enough money to buy a good double bass, the instrument that I would later use in college and many ensembles. I was attending school full time and teaching, at times, thirty hours a week. I joined bands that gigged regularly around Cincinnati and the country. We were recorded on NPR and a handful local, independent radio stations in the midwest. After college, I continuted teaching and found a regular gig at an upscale hotel in downtown Cincinnati. I played with in the Philip Paul Jazz Trio, three nights a week and every holiday in the hotel lounge.
