I'm a classical singer with a Bachelor of Music in Education degree from the University of Texas at Austin. Opera is my first love, but I also teach a wide variety of styles (musical theater, pop, country) as well as general vocal skills and musicianship. I perform in professional Opera (Austin Opera) and light Opera productions (G.S.S.A.). I also sing in more Folk/Americana styles on a regular basis for a local church. I was an intrumentalist (percussion) before focusing on voice at U.T., and I enjoy working with experienced musicians who want to try singing for the first time. I love to teach all ages and experience levels in voice. I also love teaching piano and have been doing so for more than 10 years. I'm best with beginner and intermediate piano students, children and adult beginners.

Although my expertise is in performance, vocal technique, musical analysis, theory, and principle applications of classical music, 10 years of experience has taught me that the arts encompass every aspect of our lives.  Through music, literature, and the arts, I endeavor to inspire children and adults alike to learn at play, to give and grow, explore and discover.  I believe that every moment of a young person’s life is an opportunity for growth and enrichment.  As they learn about themselves and the world around them, we can guide their footsteps with tender care, wisdom, insight, encouragement and love.  I believe that students need to be surrounded with opportunities to express from their hearts and minds, know themselves, embrace the arts, and enjoy the nurturing of their tender, ripening intellect.  It is also my most sincere belief that music is one of the most poignant mediums by which we can offer these opportunities.  It touches the deepest and most inexplicable parts of us all, yet it can be simple enough for anyone to understand---even an unborn child.  The principles of music have been proven to literally train a young brain to be receptive to complex learning, high levels of thinking and reasoning, and the mastery of numeration, sequencing, and calculation.  Although every teaching experience is unique, my constant goal is to excellently open the door for the mastery of musical understanding and technique, as it brings about self-confidence, broadens self-awareness, fosters the development of intellect and nurtures a love of learning.

I believe that anyone can achieve success when pursuing the study of music!  It is the teacher's role to discover strengths and interests and to guide the student in developing their fullest musical potential.  As an educator, I  understand that students need assignments that are at their independent level of study, and base the lesson experience on that knowledge.  I love seeing the joy and confidence that emerges as students progress toward their goal of playing and singing well!

Some students learn best by ear, some best by visuals…  Some need to watch me play a beat, some need to practice in the dark…  Some like to color code their sheet music and some like to just draw pictures of shoes and hands…  I create custom lesson plans starting with what seems to be the easiest approach for the student to learn, but then challenge him/her to try other methods as well. In parellel to that, some students don’t like jazz, some students only want to learn traditional grip…  Some students don’t like using their feet, some students only want to play double kick…  I always teach students what they are eager to learn, but then challenge them to explore other genres and techniques.  Even if a student doesn’t like Samba but then gives it a try, he/she will take away from it something, even if the experience just proves what he/she doesn’t like!  The way I preach that my favorite percussionists are the ones with their own unique style, I encourage my students to find inspirations in everything around them in order to create their own unique style.

Ever since I picked up a guitar at the age of 15, I have been passionate about performing.  Earning a music degree came naturally to me, as I have a great appreciation for all genres of music.  My band, The Hollowmen, and I have performed at several venues around San Antonio as we work to make our mark in the rock-n-roll scene.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
