When I begin with a new student, I generally jam and analyze my student's abilities, skill level, techniques and interests/desires in music styles. When I have a good idea about my student's ability and skill level, we begin with focusing on what needs to be improved. For beginner children, I like to focus on the fundamentals and keep interest with keeping things creative, exciting and fun! For my drum students I start with the well- renown "Stick Control" by George Lawrence Stone because of it's ease of learning and incredible versatility to a percussionist. For Bass and keyboard instruments I begin by getting the student playing music the first day and then gradually introduce them to the musical notation, scales, chords, and arpeggios that take musicians to the next level.
