I am an enthusiastic and knowledgeable instructor who loves sharing my love of music with students. In 2011 I graduated from Haverford College as a Music Minor and History Major. I write songs constantly and have performed hundreds of times as both a solo artist and with bands that I have formed. I have performed in Maine, Massachusetts, New York, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, California, North Carolina, Texas and Louisiana. This teaches us to listen first. Even with classical music I like to start to internalize the music as I learn it. I believe that by listening well to one another, by digging deeply into a musical vocabulary that is different from that of our upbringings, is extremely enriching, and builds bridges. We learn by imitation, and yet we are creators ourselves who best discover our own voices, and develop our own musical expression by having absorbed and carefully listened to those who have come before us, and those with whom we coexist. I believe in teaching people to be true musicians and tap into their own creative spirits, not just to be technicians at the mercy of what's written for them. With that said, I take a balanced approached between learning traditional fundamentals and some of my own more philosophical approach, drawing on metaphors and analagous experiences to help frame this learning experience in ways the student can relate and understand.
