My goal as a teacher not to make a professional musician from every student, but to introduce them to a great wold of music and make them fall in love with it. I love Mrs. Suzuki's quote:"Every child can".Yes, every student can learn to play an instrument at his or her own pace. But to do so they need to understand the importance of every day practice.I always encourage my students to participate in recitals and concerts, as this is a real opportunity to witness their progress. I began teaching as a teenager when I was in Ann Arbor's psychedelic rock band SPROTON LAYER. I have taught friends and family off and on for many years. During the economic crash in 2009, I took a course on Teaching to understand different age groups and varied approaches in learning. Since then, I have taught steadily and found it very rewarding. One of the hardest things to get across to the Student is that the single most important thing to do is Play. Read More

My name is Alex L., and I've been playing the drums for 10 years with 3 years of teaching experience. I have taught independently and in academies, and currently, I play in an up-and-coming band called Walking Down Main based out of the Detroit metro area. I am deeply passionate about music and aspire to inspire others through teaching and performing. We have played all around the Detroit area in the last two years and have also performed in some cities in Ohio and looking forward to venturing out even further. Read More

Teaching is something that I have always done, in addition to performing. I incorporate fundamentals and musicality with every student, but each student learns differently and has different goals. I do not have a set curriculum, I gear the study to the student, what the student needs and wants to accomplish. I encourage students to perform in some way, either on a solo recital of in a chamber ensemble. I hold annual recitals and online students also participate in recitals, if they choose. Read More

My lesson style consists of working on fingering and plucking first from Essential Method Book for Strings or the Suzuki book (for the beginning students who are children). While they (children) are practicing, I encourage/ recommend them to memorize the songs if they can. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. I also try to find out what inspires the student. That way, I know their wants and needs. Read More

I received my Bachelor of Music in Choral Music Education in 2020, but have been performing since I was 11 years old. I am now a choir director in the Downriver area. I have experience with all populations and ages, allowing me to share the gift of music with anyone and everyone! I taught elementary school for a full year and now work with middle school aged students. While this is my first experience working one-on-one with students, I am teaching over 100 students each day in my choir program to be the best musicians they can be! Read More

I love teaching any style and genre of music and it is a great joy to be able to play with your students for different occasions! I make sure that all my students have the fundamental technical ability and appropriate reading skills. Depending on their age, experience and the style they want to learn, I build personal curricula for each individual that is challenging yet fun. I believe my experience as a professional musician and my training as an academic in the field of music education will cover the needs of any student no matter their capabilities or level of playing.
