Our music lesson students will have the opportunity to take lessons from the comfort of their own home or in one of the teachers studios. Careful attention is placed on each student to ensure a custom lesson plan. As mentioned in my methods, I customize my lesson plans based on my students goals and needs as a musician. I try to balance out the importance of theory and understanding music notation with having fun and working on songs or techniques that the students particularly desires to play. I take the time to ensure that the student thoroughly understands concepts and songs before moving on. Though I also will take breaks to try something new to keep the student actively engaged. Teaching piano is a great joy. My goal is to help students develop the skill to make playing music fun and satisfying, whether their goal is to become a professional or to simply enjoy playing for its own sake. With the small devotion of 30 minutes a day to your practicing, I can make a novice player become a good guitarist, and a good guitarist into a great player. For beginning pre-teen students, I most often begin with the Alfred Auberge method. For those who can already read music or have played another instrument, the Mel Bay method is a good start. For a beginning student on guitar, I have them learning notes from a Hal Leonard, Mel Bay, or Alfred starter book. All these books are great, but I believe it depends on the individual student and how they learn. I also teach tab to beginners. I feel it is important to read tabs these days as well as notes. I also work with music theory. It is also important to know what you are doing, not just putting your fingers on the strings. Read More
