Taught with iPianoLab, keyboard program for kids age 5-10, for last 2 years. I teach private lessons as well as group lessons, in schools and privately. I have played bass professionally for the past 10 years, playing in jazz bands, pop bands for private events, and many other genres of music, playing upright and electric bass. I currently serve in a church band that I've been a part of for the past 4 years, playing a mix of traditional Gospel, Caribbean worship, and CCM. Read More

My Teaching Style might be called the Charles Rosen Approach holistic use of numerous aspects: 1. Efficient instrumental mechanics (the basis of a strong and accurate technique); 2. Causal influences both historical and theoretical, which inevitably affect each other in a constant give-and-take and which we perceive through the sieve of time after the event. 3. Proper use of the body as demonstrated in Alexander Technique, Feldenkrais, and Body-Mapping, which can be grouped together under the umbrella of Ergonomics! Read More

For my younger students I prefer using the Faber method books as well as "A Dozen A Day" for finger technique and dexterity. For intermediate and older students I introduce repertoire pieces in addition to leveled method books by Alfred. As my students progress I introduce classical pieces as well as suitable pop pieces based on their interest My older and adult students tend to be more goal oriented in their learning so lessons are developed based on their in individual needs. I began teaching guitar part-time about 6 years ago as a side job, on top of my then-main gig as a grocery store clerk. Slowly but surely, however, I added more and more students to my roster and was able to phase out the grocery store job, and today I teach guitar full time! There are three main components I look for in a student: passion, potential, and diligence. If a student has the passion for music, the potential to get better, and the diligence to put in the time and work, the sky is the limit! Read More

All I want is to know that my students are enjoying music more deeply, and that they gain the self-sufficiency to learn between lessons. I make sure to point out milestones that a student has achieved to encourage that innate human drive for improvement, and always keep looking for what is exciting and inspiring for the student at a given time. I make sure each student I work with knows what elements to include in their practice, how to learn a piece of music from scratch, and how to break things down into manageable, learnable chunks. As a music annotator, analyst and critic, I have worked for over 15 years with major arts agencies, technical journals and CD labels in performing arts media, technical writing, editing and proofreading, following a career as a successful classical touring musician. In 2010, after living 25 years in Manhattan, I moved back to where I was born – Bergen County. Working in my teaching studios in both Teaneck and New York, I specialize in teaching and coaching up-and-coming young musicians, college-bound guitarists, adults with backgrounds in other instruments, in classical, acoustic and crossover styles.
