I create my own lesson plans based off of the individual student. For voice students, we usually warm up, do technical exercises working on varying registers and techniques, and then work on repertoire. I often find the passages in a particular song that the student is struggling with and focus in on those, finding exercises to guide the student. For instrumental students, I work on a lot of music theory and reading, for students of all levels and ages. Read More

Sharing the joy of making music has been a passion of mine since my undergraduate days. I've been lucky enough to have had some of the most fulfilling students along my journey since then. I enjoy beginning students and their progression and growth and have seen some of my younger students granted music scholarships and even music degrees along the way. I've also had the pleasure of working with some of the finest adult beginners since living here in New York. Read More

Over the last 20+ years of teaching I have developed an approach of customizing lessons to suit every student. Since students tend to have widely varying degrees of experience as well as goals I have found that this is the best approach. I will always sit down with each student and together we can figure out what it is that they would like to do, and what is the most straight forward way is to get there. Read More

I fell in love with the act of helping others to realize the music inside them, and have been teaching consistently ever since. Learning any musical instrument involves learning about oneself. The student and teacher must work together to define their goals, be comfortable confronting shortcomings, discover how they learn best, and find the patience and drive to practice for long enough to get better. My style of teaching is very much influenced by my amazing professors that I studied with in college. What I find most rewarding is when I teach students that truly practice and try their very best to improve and absorb the information. When the students' passion and thirst for improvement comes through to me it makes the lessons that much more engaging and fun. I am highly encouraging and very particular with practice routine, planning and structure. Read More
