I love the John Thompson series for young children beginning their study of music. For 3 and 4 year olds, I start out with John Thompson's Easiest Piano Book. We also work on keyboard orientation, understanding and mastery of the musical alphabet, note values, and rhythm. I've found for very young children, drawing notes with crayons, clapping, singing, keep lessons fun and engaging. I began teaching as a side gig in college. I found I loved connecting with students, and helping them along their musical journey. Once I graduated I began teaching at a music school started by some fellow alumni. There I was able to refine my teaching style and focus on stimulating creativity in my students. I was also already teaching privately due to demand from the members of of the Princeton and New Jersey Classical Guitar Societies. I was concentrating on classical students but also taught folk, pop, rock, and jazz styles. I did this until the age of 16, when I moved to NYC to begin my Bachelors studies at the Manhattan School of Music under the legendary Manuel Barrueco. I taught both privately and at local NYC music schools during my Bachelors, Masters, and Doctoral years of study. Read More
