Principally a stage performer, I've been teaching for about 5 years, beginning with a Master Class on Song Performance at the Shakespeare Theater Company. I've given individual lessons for about 2 years (professionally), specializing in musical theater and acting, helping young performers learn what I wish I had at their stage of career. For every singer I will assign various vocal exercises to practice each week. We also will work on sight-reading exercises to encourage a high level of musicianship. For beginning voice students I usually start with breathing techniques, which I believe are the basis of good vocal technique, then vocal warm-ups, and singing repertoire. I am very flexible in following the interests and goals of the student, which are always my guide in lesson planning. I teach based on what is best suited for the learner. All students learn differently and at different speeds. Students will be able to choose repertoire and learn technique through the music they love. Students are encouraged to discuss the music that they are interested in, their goals, and interests. I have been singing since the age of nine and playing the piano since I was thirteen. I started at the Brooklyn College conservatory and through opportunities have performed at different venues. I spent almost 20 years in private study though my educational background including through high school to graduate school. I begin with students by asking their goals. Once I have a clear understanding of what results the student is looking for, I can then find ways to help them in achieving these goals. For instance, I always work with the student on warm-ups at the beginning of each lesson.
