Hello folks, my name is Andy. I am a 23-year-old musician with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Framingham State University. I am predominantly a bass guitarist, with an affinity towards jazz, psychedelic rock, alternative, metal, prog, and sometimes just straight up pop. I pay close attention to the goals of a given student and shape my curriculum based around their needs. If a student aspires to become a professional jazz guitarist, I teach them jazz chords, improvisational techniques and necessary reading skills. Every student works at their own pace and I allow for a lot of flexibility in my lessons. However, once the student has communicated their long term goals for the guitar, realistic goals are set between each lesson. I assign projects to work on between each lessons usually a mix of technical practice, such as left hand and right hand techniques, and musical works the student is interested in. Though each student gets a lesson plan that is catered to their individual needs, I start everyone off with these three questions: Which musical artists do you listen do? What do you like about their music? What are your goals with taking lessons? I use this information to teach the student how to play some of their favorite songs, how to write similar music, and how to use my lessons as a means of achieving their musical goals I have found that doing so results in faster results, and increased motivation.
