As a rule, I let the student dictate what they would like to learn and where they would like to start. From there, depending on what skill level they are already at, I will choose what aspects of formal training that would help them to best achieve their goals. With beginners, I always pay attention to how they hold and operate the instrument to ensure that they do not develop techniques and habits that could cause them physical injury or significantly hinder their progress down the line. I mostly do paperless. Less money involved, less waste of papers. I use a lot of videos and recordings. The principal instrument that needs to be trained is the hears. Brain and fingers immediately after. When a method is necessary, based on level of the student and topics studied, I recommend Creative Guitar by Guthrie Govan 1 and 2; Advancing Guitarist by Mick Goodrick and The Lesson by Victor Wooten. This last one is not properly a method, but an incredible book about music and musicians, that teaches more than the big majority of methods out there Read More

Teaching has been a constant through my musical journey, mainly in person. I have not had the opportunity to be as consistent, because of my performance schedule. Online learning platforms have begun to open my eyes to endless opportunities. Both the challenge and the reenforced learning have been the most rewarding teaching experiences. No two students are alike, so understanding an individual's learning style and interests in music is the best approach. Read More

I am a musician and comedian, passionate about teaching the next batch of artists to be creative and daring in their art. I love helping students learn new skills as well as introducing them to new music in order to help them cultivate their personal style and artistic voice. When I was first learning guitar, I was frustrated about not knowing how to take the ideas in my head and convey them through my guitar. Read More
