I am very laid back as a teacher. I do not expect my students to train and rehearse like professionals. I simply give homework so as to remind what their path is and what is the best method to achieve their goals. The homework is also there to help work on the obstacles they will face in their training. I totally understand that this is a hobby and want people to develop a passion for music in their own time. Most important to my teaching is that each student to listens to a lot of music, and learns to play the music that they love as soon as possible. I work with a variety of method books/videos depending on skill level and stylistic interest, and teach time-tested regimens for building raw ability on the instrument. I also have many exercises of my own invention that are fun to listen to and play, while still remaining challenging and building facility. Read More

Phase 1: Open Chords I like to start here because it is such a fundamental concept in guitar. No matter how long you've been playing, you will always find yourself going back to these open chords. You can build so many campfire sing-a-long songs with these chords. This section will also introduce some common rhythms and strumming patterns. The toughest part here is building finger strength but there's no better place to start! Read More

I started teaching when i started college. I was first a substitute teacher. From then, I slowly built up my student database. I have worked for many music schools and have always had a packed schedule. I make sure the student feels at home and comfortable when taking lessons. I believe music education is important these days. Many schools are taking away their music programs. When teaching, I am confident in my skills for keeping the student interested, learning, and happy. Read More

I began teaching when I was 17 and have a pretty busy schedule of up to 35 students a week! Many of those students still continue to take lessons after 3 years of instruction and have improved beyond their original goals. I find that each student has different interests (rock, jazz, classical, pop, etc.) which is why I enjoy focusing on what they want to learn. Other students do not know exactly what they want to learn; however, they just want to improve in playing their instrument all around. Read More

I'm a dedicated and passionate student and teacher of music and enjoy teaching just as much as playing. I'm a graduate of Muhlenberg College with a BA in music performance. As much as I love performing in front of an audience, I get the same warm satisfaction out of constant practice and sharpening of my skills on my own. As someone who regularly plays with working, Grammy-nominated musicians in the tri-state area I've found that the musical values I hold dear translate all across the board to all players and styles. Nothing makes me happier than having the opportunity to share my love of music and guitar. Upon graduating from Skidmore College in 2000, I was accepted to Florida State University to the classical guitar program under the study of Bruce Holzman. I feel my decision to simultaneously work towards two masters degrees speaks clearly for my motivation and passion towards music. While I focused on music theory/composition for my PhD studies at Louisiana State University, I continued performing newly composed works by graduate composers for the instrument. Read More
