I think being well rounded is important with music and one thing that I've noticed is building on what the student is interested in. Started off with materials builds important fundamentals, but if my student is nodding off to sleep, then I'm not doing my job. I'll begin by setting a goal and seeing what the student is interested in (i.e. what band/song would they like to learn about?) From there, I'll set a realistic goal (Flight of the Bumblebee can't and shouldn't be the first song on guitar that you learn) and we'll learn the techniques, structure, and music theory that exists in a certain song. I started teaching voice while at Purchase College and then focused on performing and writing, and came back to teaching last year. I use the techniques I've learned from my vocal teachers along the way, as long as my own ideas and perspectives on healthy, correct ways to sing your best. I believe strongly in teaching technique and basic theory in addition to singing whole pieces and performing. To me, every aspect of singing is enjoyable and I try to bring that sense of positivity and encouragment to my lessons. Read More

I have been playing guitar for 10 years. I want to pursue a career as an artist, playing around the world. I am new to giving music lessons but I cannot wait to start sharing the joy of music. I graduated from SUNY Westchester Community College with a degree in Liberal Arts. This degree is serving as a stepping stone to transfer into a four year school. I plan on continuing my study of music around the world, majoring in Music Education. Read More

For beginning students, I typically begin with a deep dive on rudimental studies and keyboard skills on drums and mallet percussion. I gradually introduce notation and music literacy tools to improve the students understanding of how the fundamentals of music interact with one another. I use a lot of rote teaching methods as well to take full advantage of how physical percussion and drums can be. I find that students interests will quickly guide me to making suggestions for different repertoire to take on as the student is ready. Read More

My teaching style depends on the student's age and ability. Student's at different levels and ages will need various approaches. For everyone, I try to be calming, supportive, and as fun as possible; there are differences for various ages. With very young students, it's important to be as supportive as possible; especially when learning new things that can often be frustrating. Having an environment of support is paramount to me in these lessons. Read More
Instruments: Guitar
I start the student off with basic fundamentals. Basic scales and chords. I'll start to give the student more advanced material once they start making more progress. I'll center the learning curve on how quickly they progress through each lesson. Once they can figure out a certain fundamental I'll help them build upon on it and work at it from different angles do understand it better. Read More
Instruments: Piano Guitar Voice
I believe that variety is the spice of not only life, but also music. I grew up singing folk music with a musical family (think accordions, guitars and lots of vocal harmonies). I learned guitar and piano at an early age and began singing even earlier. My quest to give the world the best my vocal cords could offer led me to obtain an undergraduate degree in vocal performance from the University of Nebraska (where I graduated honorable mention, named with the vocal departments Outstanding Senior in Music award, and also obtained a minor in theatre) and a masters degree in music from the Cleveland Institute of Music.
