Instruments: Guitar
For beginning students, I would like to start with knowing exactly where they are at with guitar; how to hold it, how to tune it, how strum it. Once the student understands those fundamentals, I like to start on open chords with easy fingerings (usually learning chords is very exciting since you can hear what you are accomplishing). With that, I would like to get to know the student and understand what the student wants out of the lessons; what they like to listen to, what they want to learn, what is difficult for them, etc. Read More

I write all my own lesson materials focusing on what the student needs to know to play, understand, and enjoy music to achieve their goals. I have used several method books in the past but find them all limited or focused on styles or technique that is not what the student wants or needs to learn. I can teach from any established method if that is preferred, but instead enjoy challenging the student to understand what music is and how music is played on their chosen instrument, not just to read. I've been teaching privately for 15 years and working with music stores and schools in their band programs/music classes for 8 years. I've worked with Brian Wilson at Summit Academy, Jeff Quamo's students at Mesa High and with Mary Price in her general music classroom at Summit Academy. I'm currently in multiple ensembles as well as getting back into choral music which is where I get my experience in musical phrasing and emotion. Read More

I began playing electric bass at 14 and started a band at 15. We won 1st place in NMHS Battle of the Bands and at 16 we recorded out first album and had our first performance on the radio. By 17 with busier schedules and our drummer leaving the band fell apart and I began looking into ways of doing things solo. I invested into a loop station and got into Jazz and Classical music. I'm a 22-year-old music lover! I have played guitar since I was 10 years old and have taught and played with several people throughout the world. I've performed in college classes, community events, and church devotionals. I have taught people from age 8 up to 40 and absolutely love it! Music helps me express myself and teaching others how to do the same is my greatest passion! Not only do I love teaching people, but I love getting to know them as well. Read More

Rainbow Ukulele for younger students in elementary school plus a combination of supplemental materials I've gathered over the years. Read More

We start with fundamentals of music theory, ear training, and composition. We find the songs and styles you want to learn and then make them make sense, through small assignments, that build into the finished product. If you can see the shapes on the guitar and subdivide the beat into equal parts, we can start to play the tunes you like. I a do not believe in slow progress. i believe you can learn and improve consistently, while having fun. Read More
