I typically use the Alfred series of Piano Method materials to teach my piano students. Along with those materials, I add solo pieces for my students to learn as they progress. With my younger students especially, I enjoy introducing fun pieces for holidays throughout the year. I teach to my individual students abilities and interests to keep it engaging, enjoyable and fun too! Ashley is a recent graduate of Temple University- Boyer College of Music where she earned her Bachelor in Music in Flute Performance under Mr. David Cramer, Associate Principal Flute of the Philadephia Orchestra, and Mrs. Prema Kesselman, former Principal Flute of the Santiago Philharmonic. In my two years of teaching, Ive learned the best way to encourage consistent practice is to set realistic short term and long term goals: Finding and pursuing performance opportunities, auditioning for summer camps, preparing a performance for your family, etc. When there is an end goal, we can more clearly plan out what things to focus on in lessons. I like to set goals for my students. I generally work out of lessons books, solo repertoire, and whatever else the student brings in. If the students have music from classes in school, I will also assist them with that. I try to keep the lesson light, and enjoyable! I played music all my life. I began to play the flute at the age of 9 years old and the piano at around 12. I graduated from Washington Adventist University with a degree in music performance. I have performed with the New England Symphonic Ensemble in various countries all over the world including England, Thailand, Greece, Italy, Mexico, Jamaica, Caymen Islands and South Africa.
