I fell in love with the cello when I started in the Smithtown school district at age nine. At fifteen, I began my formal musical training at Mannes Prep Pre-College Division, studying with Dorothy Lawson of the ETHEL Quartet. I went on to achieve my Bachelor of Music degree in Cello Performance at Ithaca College, where I studied with Elizabeth Simkin. I use a variety of methods: tablature seems to be the preferred method for most guitarist/ukulele students. It's easy to learn. The 'tab' method allows me to teach more current music. I also use method books by Mel Bay and Hal Leonard and other method systems that apply to the particular student. I use whatever is available as far as teaching materials whether it be a method book or magazine lessons. Read More

Instruments: Drums Conga

For beginning students I usually show them a simple song and teach them how it relates to standard notation and drum set coordination through Ted Reed's Syncopation. Once the student can understand how each of the limbs work and how I will communicate it on a page, we can go over more songs and include other books which detail various beats that are recognizable as well as functional. After fundamental coordination is grasped we can begin to focus on rudiments and the application of certain hand exercises to the drum set to explore possibilities. Read More

My teaching method depends on what the student wants to learn, if they prefer to start learning songs first that is fine but I will still make sure to cover basic music principles in early lessons and incorporate them into the lessons. I need and expect my students to practice at least 15 minutes of per day, more if possible. This will enable me to not have to review previous lessons too much and we can move through more material quicker. Read More
