I approach teaching on an individual basis, meaning it's important to me to know the goals, hopes, passions, and if applicable, the worries or insecurities the student is feeling. In a first lesson I identify something that is special and unique about each student, and build their technique from this place. I find this helps the difficult areas feel a little less challenging because they already have something they feel proud of when working through the discomfort of something new or intimidating. My overarching goal in my teaching is to instill a passion for music. Every student is different and has there own unique learning style, and I like to be able to structure each lesson to best fit the learning styles of the student. Every student learns and progresses at there own pace, and will adjust to the pace of every individual student. I hope to inspire a love of music in others through my teaching, playing, and composing. In 2012 I graduated from Eastman School of Music with High Honors, and in 2015 I received a Master's degree in Jazz Studies from New York University, and in 2022 I received a PhD in Music Performance from NYU. I have performed in Italy, Canada, Costa Rica, and throughout the United States, and have taught various styles and instruments to students of all ages. For young beginner students, I start teaching with Book 1 of Accent on Achievement, by John O'Reilly and Mark Williams. As we advance, we will move on to Book 2. I have selected this book because I believe it introduces musical concepts in an easy to understand way, and it uses a fundamental selection of traditional and classical pieces. For my students who can play at an intermediate level, I will use the Trevor Wye Practice Books for the Flute, Omnibus edition. Read More
