In high school I had the great privilege of being selected as the Principal clarinetist in the Minnesota All-State Band. We performed at the summer camp designed for these groups and recreated our performance at Orchestra Hall, home of the Minnesota Orchestra, the following spring. Clarinet is my primary instrument and first love. I also teach saxophone and beginning flute and hope to add other woodwinds in the future. In the first year, I typically teach basic fundamentals of scales and playing the full range of the instrument along with basic flute literature. Once these are complete I transition into the Anderson studies and more advanced literature. For young beginners, I make use the method book that is being used at their school as well as supplying materials specifically for their instrument. As the student progresses, he/she will be introduced to solo repertoire as well advance method books for recital and competitive purposes. I earned my Bachelor of Arts degree from California State University in 1989. Until that time, I was a member of the local symphony as well as playing in other symphonies, musical theater, private events, chamber groups, etc. I then moved to Dallas, TX where I attended and graduated from Southern Methodist University with a master's in Music Education and Flute Performance.
