The first few lessons will focus on discovering our goals as one team: student, teacher and parents. We will have an open conversation about specific aspects of the flute and music that each student would like to improve as well as identifying their strengths. I use a variety of teaching methods, based on my own experience as a performer that I gained throughout long years of international education. My work has taken me all over the world, from exotic, global itineraries on board 5-star cruise ships, to the some of the top music venues in New York City, as well as the homes and classrooms of many satisfied students. For both my younger and adult students, I like to start lessons with warm ups, then move to technique training, etude, finally to solo pieces, with each lesson including a brief review of the previous lesson. For beginning students, I start with teaching them about breathing, posture, and positioning of the instrument, so students can develop solid foundation, and good playing habits. I use a combination of different methods rather than one method. The parts to my approach is; 1) Exposure, by listening to high information music. 2) Discovery, becoming familiar with the chosen instrument by means of discovering how to make music with it and what are the possibilities with said instrument. 2) Association, by learning songs and pieces that the student is already familiar with. 3) Analysis, breaking apart songs and sounds that the student is familiar with to understand the theory behind it. 4) Aplication, by using the knowledge aquiered through learning familiar with to learn new pieces of music. I use the Rubank method of books as a traditonal conservatory approach to early progression. I find their systematic flow efficient and effective to consistent improvement. We would then move to fulfilling repertoire that would qualify the student for collegiate study and competitive performance.
