I have worked with students from elementary school through college as well as adults, and in addition to my private studio, I am also the resident woodwinds instructor at 3 community music schools in the LA area. I started teaching in 2012, I took some time off after school and traveled to Shanghai-China. There I taught at Rubato Music, a private music studio. I gave lessons to children and adults, had my first experience introducing the instrument to novice students. I took notes from colleague and learned from more experienced teachers on ways to better explain/demonstrate lesson material. I'm a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students and sharing my love of music. In 2018, I graduated from University of Antioqua with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Flute Performance. Performing in Latin America and United States has been one of the greater experiences of my life as a musician, and I've had the opportunity to play as a soloist with university of Louisiana orchestra, as well as with several orchestras in Colombia acting on this performances as the principle flutist/ principal chair. We will have an open conversation about specific aspects of the flute and music that each student would like to improve as well as identifying their strengths. I use a variety of teaching methods, based on my own experience as a performer that I gained throughout long years of international education. I usually start my beginner students with Flute 101 Mastering the Basics method book, followed with the selection of scales and technical exercises of my creation and a repertoire selection (including etudes) matching the skills progression.
