I am a graduate student at SUNY Purchase, and will be receiving my Master's degree in Music Performance this spring. I received my Bachelor's degree in Music Performance from SUNY Fredonia in 2016. Throughout my studies, I have been fortunate enough to perform with the Western New York Chamber Orchestra and learn from renowned flutists -- including Gary Schocker, Ian Clarke, and Tara O'Connor (my current teacher). I have developed my own system and materials for introducing the fingerings and reading music in a methodical way. I write my own simple exercises and songs. I use the Wagner book and a duet book, and appropriate solos depending on the interests of the student. I customize the lessons and go where the student's needs and interests are. Popular songs can be good as solos, and some studnets really enjoy playing Handel, Telemann, and Bach. Read More

I have been teaching for more than 30 years, mostly in the public schools as well as privately. I have instructed large groups and ensembles, as well as smaller musical groups in and out of the public schools. Performing in various Jazz groups throughout the state has enhanced my teaching knowledge in the field of music education. I am a passionate teacher and musician and I have experience teaching students of all ages. In 2018, I graduated from the University of Delaware with a Bachelor of Music in Music Education and a concentration in flute. I'm currently enrolled at the Hartt School where I am pursuing my masters degree in Flute Performance. I co-direct the Hartt School's Flute Choir and teach private flute and piano students. For elementary students, I usually have them work out of Standard of Excellence books or Rubank Elementary method books and supplement them with fun popular music they enjoy to play. For middle school and high school students, I encourage them to work on appropriate solos, scales, and duets we can play together. For adult students, I typically ask them about their musical goals and interests so that we can make a plan that they’re excited about! Read More
