For beginning students, I typically use one method book and one book of simple melodies.  My preferred method book is the Rubank series. The method book teaches the basics, while the melodies and songs keep things fresh and interesting for the student so they want to continue.  For advanced students, I find significant, staple pieces that any advanced musician should have in their repertoire.  This keeps the student engaged, and prepares them for anything down the road in their musical careers. I've always been a passionate and curious musician, ever since I picked up a flute in fourth grade. I have been dedicated to both flute and percussion ever since then, and continue to learn and play at Sarah Lawrence College. I am currently focusing on playing in pit bands for musicals, as they are my favorite performance setting. I have competed multiple times in the NYSSMA solo music festival, and have been part of an award winning concert band at the Lake Compounce Trills and Thrills Music Festival. Read More

For middle school and high school students, I encourage them to work on appropriate solos, scales, and duets we can play together.
