I use a few different method books, and while they are very useful for attaining the building blocks of technique and knowledge young and beginning musicians need but I like to go beyond what reading books has to offer. My goal is to show my students everything there is - reading, theory, and technique are all important but so is creation, improvisation, learning through sound and finding what inspires them. All of my students learn through working towards practical and achievable goals that we set together. Beginning students are introduced to the fundamentals of music and flute technique through pairing theoretical exercises with practical, tangible music-making. This sets up a habit from day one that all of the concepts that we learn have a real-life purpose. Younger students begin learning from the Abracadbra flute book, progressing to solo repertoire and exercises as they progress. Read More

I teach begginers to professionals. On saxophone I empathize what I have learned from everywhere but especially Joe Allard, his methods have proved to be exceptional in getting a desirable sound and achieving technique on the saxophones. Tone and harmonics are essential for saxophone. i have been teaching in my home studio for over 10 years. Living in NY I help students prepare for NSYMA. Last year I had two students at level 5 one scored a 99 the other a 94. Read More

For younger students, I find that book based methods are very helpful, and typically I go through the Hal Leonard Essential Elements Series. Once the student has a firm handle of the basics of saxophone (fingerings, embouchure, dynamics, etc.) then I start having them read etude books, and prepare pieces for recitals and other performances or auditions. For adults, I like to teach based on a goal oriented program. For example, If I have a student who is only interested in learning the saxophone for the sake of playing "Yakety Sax" or "The Pink Panther Theme", then I will tailor the lesson plan towards learning that while still working on the fundamentals of Saxophone along the way.
