I began teaching when I was in High School, where I had several students of varying ages and skill levels.  I taught private lessons in their homes.  I encourage regular practice, and weekly lessons.  A mixture of method books and my own personal written lessons I have found to be the most effective teaching strategy. Books with a variety of popular solos I also utilize.  Method books are necessary for skill, but can get boring and repetitive for younger students.  Keeping things fresh and interesting is my main focus in teaching. I find that it is imperative to acknowledge accomplishments so that student's have the desire to grow and progress. I do not believe in setting "practice times" as I find that can create very unhealthy practice habits physically and emotionally. Instead, I teach my students to listen to their body and their emotions as to when they want to practice - this will lead to them becoming confident musicians while also growing their love for music! I keep track each week in a notebook of what their assignments are. I use many different books, learning by ear, learning by youtube, learning by rout, and I have developed my own music writing technique which decodes any song at any level to a much easier level because all students are unique, and deserve to have a teacher who can reach them.
