I have been teaching privately since I was in college and have been teaching ever since. . I believe in meeting students where they are and encouraging them to practice regularly so they will continue to progress at a rate that keeps them excited and developing a passion for the flute and music. I use classical music and more modern music to help them explore different styles and to keep having fun! My students are encouraged to audition for honors bands, enter solo and ensemble competitions Read More

Any time I teach, I make sure to plan every lesson so that the student(s) can progress as far as possible every time they are learning with me. With school-age students, I use the Orff Schulwerk approach often, incorporating their own ideas into the lesson and having them learn through various senses (imagery, movement, games, etc.). When teaching older students and especially in Voice, I make sure the student is giving feedback back to me on how they feel they are progressing throughout the lesson. Read More

Over the years, I've learned that every single student learns differently in addition to going at their own pace. Anyone at any age CAN learn music! I've found that presenting multiple solutions to varying problems gives the students the best chance to succeed and it's not that someone cannot learn, they just haven't been presented with an explanation they can understand and clicks for them. I teach for each student individually and to their strengths, not what has worked for others. Read More

I grew up in a musical family. My mother is a professional violinist and teacher and all of my sisters and brother and I learned to play various instruments from a very early age. My mother and father sacrificed a lot for their children to have music lessons as they are quite expensive for the lower middle class family But they believed it was worth it as music lessons boost brain power and help with the development of fine motor skills and mathematics, even speech. For beginning students, I like to start from Essential elements, Suzuki 1, or Piano Adventures. Students will also likely have a theory workbook or worksheets that match the level of their current repertoire. Intermediate students, we will start using a program called smart music that plays the accompaniment for pieces that we are working on. This will really help develop a great internal sense of rhythm and help students recognize immediately when something needs correcting. Read More

The most important thing for me when it comes to teaching is knowing that my student is progressing but also enjoying their experience overall, another very important factor is overall retention of the information. Every person is different so there is really no cut and dry method of teaching, keeping this in mind the experience for everyone should be unique in a way. By setting routines together Im sure we could come to an agreement on how we could both help each other achieve our goals and succeed. Read More
