I've taught piano in New York and Pennsylvania for 20 years to more than 50 students. I've played Broadway for Music Man, Little Mary Sunshine, Fantasticks, West Side Story in Harrisburg, Mechanicsburg Area. My overall experience in playing Organ is 50 years along with Christmas musicals, Hymn sings, Gospel fests, etc. In college, I sang in Oratorio group to Vocal Jazz, Wind ensemble, and HandBell choir. I am very old school, meaning I expect them to memorize lyrics and lines, and understand what they are saying and why. I approach teaching as a teacher who still performs,and learned by doing it. Beginning students will learn the essentials, often through a book. We will work together on focusing and controlling all the trumpet muscles and begin to develop good habits. The initial stages are crucial to developing a proper sound so they are set up for less complications in the future. Older and more experiences students will not only be learning music theory, but also how make Music out of notes.
