Bachelor Degree: Furman University
Master Degree: University of Louisville
I am a native of Louisville, KY. I started playing piano when I was 5 years old. I started playing bass guitar at age 10, and I started playing guitar at age 20. I started performing in public at the age of 6. By the time I was in high school, I was gigging most weekends. I also started recording when I was in high school. My musical background includes rock, jazz, classical, heavy metal, Middle-Eastern pop music, Christian contemporary, as well as some Latin music. Teaching music is a passion of mine, and I love seeing students progress and find joy in their musical growth.
I have a Master's Degree in Musicology from the University of Louisville and a Bachelor's Degree in Jazz Studies from Furman University. I have 30 years of music experience. In my life, I have studied with some extremely accomplished musicians, including Ian Bracchitta, Matt Olson, Steve Watson and Craig Wagner. I am currently a musician at Park Place Wesleyan Church, where I play twice a week. In 2014, I joined the team at Park Place Church as a chief musician, where I currently perform weekly and teach master classes in music. I also serve as an audio engineer for Father’s Heart Ministries. Along with my experience playing music, I have taught students for 15 years.
I can teach the fundamentals of bass playing and advanced technique, music theory, improvisation, sight reading, and music history. You will learn not only how to play the instrument proficiently, you will learn how the bass functions musically in a group as well. I establish the student's level, find out what their goals are and then start learning music. I watch their technique and listen to their sound and guide them as we go. I will always give the students material to practice between lessons.
My lessons can be catered to fit the style of music the student wishes to pursue, whether it be rock, jazz, heavy metal, classical, pop, etc. I work with students to find out what kind of music they are interested in pursuing and what their goals are. I focus on starting to play music quickly, and the student learns the theory and technique as we go. I am happy to help the student learn the particular aspects of music they wish to learn, whether it be improvisation, sight reading, theory, etc. I don't force any agenda upon my students, we learn what they want to learn and I guide them through their interests. If your goal is to be a stellar, well-rounded musician, you will be in excellent hands with me.
Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.Ok
Are you sure that's your only availability? The more availability you easier it will be to arrange a teacher for you.
