I normally use the Standard of Excellence method books for most of my students; however, I am open minded to adjusting to each individual student's musical needs, whether it be Jazz, Classical, or whatever style music the student is focusing on. For Drummers, I prefer the Haskell Harr Method, or the Buddy Rich Method Book, as well as the Breeze Easy Method Book. For piano instruction, I prefer the Faber Piano Method Books, as they are tailored to the students' individual needs. Read More

This program allowed her to study with Othonas Gkogkas, principal flutist of the Thessaloniki Orchestra. She performed a recital at the University of Macedonia consisting of solo and chamber works. Ms. Kaitlin H. has also attended and performed in masterclasses with Carol Wincenc, Paul Edmund Davies, and Dr. Andrea Loewy. I am a graduate student at SUNY Purchase, and will be receiving my Master's degree in Music Performance this spring. I received my Bachelor's degree in Music Performance from SUNY Fredonia in 2016. Throughout my studies, I have been fortunate enough to perform with the Western New York Chamber Orchestra and learn from renowned flutists -- including Gary Schocker, Ian Clarke, and Tara O'Connor (my current teacher). I am relatively new to the Hudson Valley, and I am looking forward to building a studio of passionate and dedicated students in my new home! Read More

No matter the age level or experience of the student, I will first gauge the student's ability and current level. Then I will choose from appropriate method books depending on the student's skill level. If a student has a specific path that they want to take or have their own books they want to learn from, I will cater the lessons to that. I do not have one method to use for all students, as each and every student is different. Read More

For elementary students and some middle schoolers, I usually either work out of Standard of Excellence or Essential Elements book 1 to begin their studies or continue where they left off. For high schoolers and more advanced middle schoolers, I like to have them play solo flute pieces that fit with their ability level. If the student is in band at school, I also work through that music with them if they are interested. Read More

I believe that the key to a student's success in music is being motivated by passion. That is why I like to tailor each student's learning experience to their own individual interests, allowing them to press forward with the particular source of inspiration that motivates them to learn. It is a healthy combination of focus and enjoyment that results in the most enriching learning experience, which is why I make sure every exercise I assign a student comes with an understanding of the distinct purpose and goal of the exercise. I started teaching when I was 16. I have taught small classes and private lessons for many years. I have developed a methodical system so that all aspects of flute playing are covered in a practical way that shows results from the first lesson. I teach so the student truly understand what they are playing - not just copying or playing by rote. I play for and with the student in duets so that the student can hear and be inspired by a beautiful sound and emulate it,. Read More
